Like many in rural America, his earliest musical experiences involved band and choir. His family got their first piano when he was a teenager, and he was immediately spending hours on the instrument. By college, he was dreaming of someday teaching piano at the collegiate level. He was able to realize this dream and spent over a decade in higher education as a tenured piano professor and department chair. Then something unusual happened…
His teenage son became a world-famous musician. Almost overnight, his son’s original music reached audiences around the world, drawing more than half a billion streams and chart-topping hits. As his father and his manager, he stepped into the modern music industry and learned it from the inside: how music is branded, released, and connected with fans.
That was an education of its own. He had spent his life performing great classic works and teaching others to play them, and now a question emerged: could he write something of his own that listeners would actually want? He started composing originals as an experiment, with no idea whether anyone would care.
